Just a short trip away from Paris is the beautiful and grand Palace of Versailles where King Louis XIV lived to get away from the big city, and where he housed Queen Marie Antoinette and his secret wife.
There are so many tours that will take you on a day trip from Paris to Versailles , but we decided to forgo the tours and experience the Palace of Versailles on a budget, starting with the RER train. If you already have a metro pass, this train ride that drops you a couple of blocks away from the palace will cost you no more than 10 euros round trip. The entry into Versailles will be no more than 30 euros, which we purchased online ahead of time.
For this trip, be prepared to spend at least five hours on the property itself and bring sensible shoes! There is a lot of walking to be had, especially in the gardens.
Versailles is a very popular tourist location so I highly suggest that you arrive as early as possible, preferably as soon as the doors open at 9am. Otherwise, prepare to wait one hour just to get inside.
There’s so much to see in Versailles. Everything is just so grand! I took so many pictures, of course! Be prepared for a visual blog post of it all below đ
Tip: The best way to get around the garden is to rent a golf cart at the beginning of the garden entrance for 30 euros per hour. So much of the grounds is to get from one place to the next, and the golf cart really helps skip the unnecessary walking. We ended up using the cart for about an hour and a half.
