From Dusk till Dawn

DAY FIVE // One of the main things we (or rather, I) wanted to do was get a taste of the famous New York cronut! If you don’t know what a cronut is, it’s a croissant-doughnut pastry that is fried, sugared, filled, and glazed. It has been such a crazy thing in the past couple of years that people would line up a couple of hours before the bakery, Dominique Ansel Bakery, open at 8am because they would sell out so fast.

And so, to ensure that we got our hands on it, we left our hotel at 6:30am, took the train, and headed to SoHo. A little accidental detour later and we were in line! I think we arrived in line around 7:15am.

Every so often, someone from the bakery would come outside and announce the policies that the bakery has: 2 cronuts a person, the flavor that is being served, offered people in line a sample of hot chocolate, etc.

I wanted SO many things that they made. But my wallet and probably my stomach wouldn’t have been able to make it out alive.

Had their marshmallow treat Frozen S’More as well because it was widely recommended on their Yelp page.

I think I probably shouldn’t have ordered it so early in the morning, haha, because although it was very delicious, the s’more was also really rich in sweetness.

It’s amazing how, in New York, such an acclaimed bakery is placed right next to a generic wine shop, haha.

And then walking off the sugar around Central Park!

Later that night, Rachell and I walked around the amazing Times Square while Anna stayed in the hotel room feeling a bit under the weather. I know that a lot of New Yorkers hate Times Square because it’s so busy and full of tourists. I can totally see why they’d feel like that, but I actually think Time Square is awesome, especially at night! But of course, I’m a tourist…

With all the lights blaring at you, it’s like an art form in itself. And the sheer amount of different walks of life in just a small area of land lends itself to a fun time in people watching.

When we were sitting on the red stairs, there was this guy that tapped me on the shoulder and asked me to move away. Turns out, he wanted to photograph Rachell’s Betsy Johnson rain coat. He was so immersed in getting the right shot, and Rachell was completely oblivious to all of this, haha.

Ending the day with a shot of a stoned looking Elmo wandering the Square.
